Family
- My family and I are proud residents of Gilroy. My wife and I are public school educators and my three children attend public schools. I am a product of hardworking parents who guided my four siblings and me to seek education to find a successful career and make a difference in our community.
Education
- I am forever grateful to my family, teachers, and counselors who helped me navigate my schooling at various levels. Thankfully, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at UC San Diego; a Master's degree in Psychology with a clinical emphasis at Pepperdine University; a Master's degree in Education, School Psychology PPS Credential, and Ph.D. in Education/School Psychology at UC Riverside.
Experience
- After graduating from UC San Diego, I worked with high school students as an Academic Counselor for the University of California satellite office in Fresno, CA. Our purpose was to reach as many students and parents and to provide academic counseling and outreach to increase college-going rates.
- I served as a social worker for our most vulnerable youth after graduating from Pepperdine University. I worked with community agencies and community members to provide resources for children and youth. Many of the young people I worked with often had challenges in school and I advocated for them at meetings with school staff.
- I taught at Palomar Community College for 10 years in the Psychology Department as a part-time professor. I met students of all ages who took classes to obtain an AA degree, learn a new trade, explore a potential new career, transfer to a four-year university, and continue in their learning.
- I have served as a school psychologist in public schools for 15 years and as a part-time college professor teaching and preparing new school psychologists. I was recently promoted to Interim Director of Special Education at Hollister School District.
- I have served on local and state committees in school psychology and have made an effort to improve the lives of students at all levels. My experience working in schools, at a community college, and at universities has given me the opportunity to work with professionals to improve outcomes and opportunities for students. I hope to continue that work as a trustee for Gavilan College!
